Blade Throws: Brouwer et all

Brouwer et all.  Towards analyzing risk to public safety from wind turbines

Denmark has 4x total turbine height setback which is the setback that Dickinson County citizens requested for revision of the county ordinance.  A documneted example of a full blade that flew 4.981 miles or 8 kilometers. Component failures:  78% blade, 11% nacelle (rotor, generator), and 11% tower.  It is most common for blades to break into parts than to fully detach which is a concern for greater throw distances due to smaller weight or blade fragments.
